What is a (USGTF) United States Golf Teachers Federation instructor?

A USGTF instructor is an experienced teacher /golfer that has been certified through the USGTF organization after having successfully completed the classroom teaching portion and the playing portion of the program. The USGTF is recognized as the “Leader in the Field of Golf Instruction”.

Do I need my own clubs before I take lessons?

No not initially. If you have your own clubs already that’s great, bring them to your lesson. If you do not already have your own golf clubs I would suggest you take 3 or 4 lessons before getting correctly fitted for golf clubs that suit you and your swing and or ability level.

How many lessons do I need?

That is determined based on the desires of the student in consultation with the instructor. If you have never played the game I would suggest a series or packages of lessons. If you have not played in a long time I would suggest 2-4 lessons to get you back in the swing. You may also chose to take just 1 or 2 to correct a swing flaw if you have played frequently and just need to correct something minor or learn a specialty shot. Ultimately the number of lessons required is based on the skill level the student wishes to achieve.

Can you provide lessons to someone who has never played golf before?

Absolutely, I teach every aspect of the game so I can accommodate the beginner, intermediate or advanced golfer. I will structure lessons based on the initial assessment of the student’s goals.

Yes. Very often golfers just need a tune up after the winter or a long lay off from golf. Often times it only takes one lesson to correct common mistakes.

Lessons should be spaced out every 7 to 10 days to allow for adequate practice time in between lessons. Practicing is critical to reinforce learning.

Practice is determined by the student’s motivation level however, I recommend at least 1 and possibly 2 practice sessions between lessons to develop the desired skill. Practicing correctly will improve performance dramatically.
